Finally, We Did It! 🙌 – And Here’s What I Learned

Last week, we pulled off something exciting (Our Content marketing workshop) — a successful interactive workshop on content marketing at 250Brands. And trust me, the lessons I took away are worth sharing, especially if you’re navigating the world of marketing in Rwanda.

Here’s the truth: we only had two weeks to plan, brainstorm, and make everything happen. No big budget, no long timelines — just urgency, focus, and determination. Surprisingly, this experience taught me more about marketing in Rwanda than any textbook could, and it reminded me that sometimes, less really is more.

1. Overplanning Kills More Than It Helps

Yes, planning is important. We’ve all heard the saying: Proper preparation prevents poor performance. But here’s the thing — too much planning can actually slow you down.

With just two weeks on the clock, we didn’t have the luxury to overanalyze. Instead, we went into “rapid implementation mode.” That meant:

  • Scouting multiple venues in just one day.
  • Making quick decisions and trusting our instincts.
  • Choosing what felt right instead of obsessing over every tiny detail.

The urgency forced us to act fast, and honestly, it worked in our favor. In marketing in Rwanda, and really anywhere, sometimes you need to stop overthinking, trust the process, and just move forward.

What I also realized is that when you overplan, you often create pressure that can block creativity. By working under time constraints, our team became more resourceful, more decisive, and more willing to experiment. Sometimes, the best ideas come when you’re forced to improvise.

2. A Clear Mission is Half the Battle

When your mission is clear, your execution becomes easier. Our workshop had one straightforward goal: help people practically understand how to create effective content marketing strategies.

That clarity shaped everything — from how we allocated our limited budget, to how we structured the sessions, to the kind of experience we wanted attendees to have.

For anyone doing marketing in Rwanda, I can’t emphasize this enough: a crystal-clear mission aligns your resources, keeps your team focused, and helps you deliver results even when time is short.

Having a clear mission also meant that we could evaluate every decision against our core goal. Should we include this activity? Does this exercise teach a practical content marketing skill? If the answer was yes, it stayed. If not, it was cut. That simple filter saved us hours of work and kept the workshop lean, meaningful, and effective.

Why Am I Sharing This?

Because marketing — whether in Rwanda or globally — isn’t just about strategies and tools. It’s about people, trust, and execution. This workshop showed us that it’s possible to create impact even without perfect conditions.

We almost postponed the event, thinking we weren’t ready. But pushing forward tested our abilities, pushed us out of our comfort zones, and ultimately proved that you don’t need “perfect timing” to do something meaningful.
